America: อีลอน มัสก์ ประธานเจ้าหน้าที่บริหาร หรือ CEO ของ Tesla เผยว่า อาจรับชำระเงินด้วย Bitcoin อีกครั้ง ดันให้ราคาบิตคอยน์ ซึ่งเป็นสกุลเงินดิจิทัล หรือ Cryptocurrency เพิ่มขึ้นถึง 12.79% ช่วงบ่ายวันนี้
เว็บไซต์ข่าว CNBC รายงานว่า เมื่อเวลา 01.52 น. วันจันทร์ (14 มิถุนายน) ตามเวลาสหรัฐฯ ตรงกับเวลา 13.52 น.วันเดียวกันตามเวลาในไทย Bitcoin ราคาเพิ่มขึ้นเป็นหน่วยละ 39,533.81 ดอลลาร์สหรัฐฯ (ราว 1,230,000 บาท) ตามข้อมูลของ CoinDesk ซึ่งเป็นเว็บไซต์ข่าวสกุลเงินดิจิทัล
การพุ่งขึ้นของราคา Bitcoin เกิดขึ้นหลังจากมัสก์ทวีตก่อนหน้านั้นราว 1 ชั่วโมงว่า บริษัทรถไฟฟ้า Tesla ของเขา จะรับชำระเงินด้วย Bitcoin หากมีการยืนยันว่าผู้ขุดบิตคอยน์ใช้พลังงานสะอาดอย่างสมเหตุสมผลในอนาคต โดยวงเล็บตัวเลขการใช้พลังงานสะอาดไว้ที่ 50%
เขาทวีตแก้ต่างด้วยว่า Tesla ขาย Bitcoin ที่ถืออยู่เพียง 10% เท่านั้น เพื่อยืนยันว่า Bitcoin มีสภาพคล่อง โดยไม่ได้มีผลต่อตลาดแต่อย่างใด
CNBC ระบุว่า ตั้งแต่ต้นปีนี้เป็นต้นมา Bitcoin ราคาเพิ่มขึ้นกว่า 30% โดยทำสถิติสูงสุดเป็นประวัติการณ์ที่หน่วยละ 64,829.14 ดอลลาร์สหรัฐฯ (ราว 2,017,000 บาท) ในเดือนเมษายน
Tesla เคยแจ้งต่อคณะกรรมการกำกับดูแลหลักทรัพย์และตลาดหลักทรัพย์ในเดือนกุมภาพันธ์ว่า ได้ซื้อ Bitcoin ไว้มูลค่า 1,500 ล้านดอลลาร์สหรัฐฯ (ราว 46,670 ล้านบาท) และจะรับชำระเงินด้วย Bitcoin ทำให้ราคาคริปโตเคอเรนซีสกุลนี้ทะยานขึ้นทันที
แต่หลังจากมัสก์ทวีตเมื่อวันที่ 12 พฤษภาคม ระบุว่า ระงับการชำระเงินด้วย Bitcoin เพราะกังวลเรื่องมีการใช้เชื้อเพลิงฟอสซิลเพิ่มขึ้นมากเพื่อขุดบิตคอยน์ ส่งผลให้ราคาดิ่งลงมา
ทั้งนี้ Bitcoin ถูกสร้างขึ้นโดยบรรดานักขุดที่ใช้คอมพิวเตอร์พลังสูง เพื่อแก้ปัญหาคณิตศาสตร์ซับซ้อน เป็นกระบวนการที่ใช้พลังงานอย่างมาก มักอาศัยไฟฟ้าที่ผลิตจากเชื้อเพลิงฟอสซิล โดยเฉพาะถ่านหินปัจจุบัน ชาวจีนเป็นนักขุด Bitcoin มากที่สุด คิดเป็น 75% ของทั้งโลก และมักจะใช้เชื้อเพลิงถ่านหินที่มีราคาถูก มากกว่าเปลี่ยนไปใช้พลังงานหมุนเวียนที่มีราคาแพงกว่า
จากการศึกษาพบว่า คาร์บอนฟุตปรินต์ หรือปริมาณก๊าซเรือนกระจกที่ปล่อยออกมาจากขุด Bitcoin มีขนาดใหญ่เท่ากับหนึ่งในสิบเมืองใหญ่ที่สุดของจีน และการใช้พลังงานในการขุด Bitcoin ในปัจจุบัน เทียบเท่ากับปริมาณพลังงานที่ใช้ตลอดทั้งปีในประเทศเนเธอร์แลนด์เลยทีเดียว
